DrSmile consultation appointment: Barer Straße practice in Munich

DrSmile consultation appointment: first steps to preparation

The DrSmile initial appointment begins like a regular visit to a new dental office. Because here, too, your data must first be recorded.

In exchange, you will receive a tablet on which you will need to provide your name, address, phone number and email address.

You will then be asked to answer a series of health questions. This includes the condition of your teeth (crowns, veneers, etc.), time elapsed since your last dental visit, medications taken, pre-existing conditions, and more.

When you’re done, hand your tablet in at the front desk and sit back and relax until you’re called for your DrSmile consultation appointment.

The DrSmile appointment starts with a consultation

You will then be called and taken to the treatment room. As a rule, the first steps of the Dr Smile consultation appointment are not taken by the dentist or orthodontist himself, but by a dental professional.

In a detailed discussion, you will first learn everything you need to know about the treatment, everyday life with the invisible braces, care of the splints, a possible IPR (interproximal enamel reduction) and retention.

You will then have the opportunity to ask lots of questions and clear up any ambiguities.

DrSmile 3D scan and consultation appointment

DrSmile consultation appointment: Now it’s the 3D scan’s turn

The next step is to go to the dentist’s chair, where you will first have a mouth spreader inserted to prevent the teeth from closing.

The dental professional will then take some photos of your dentition. A mirror is also used for this purpose, which you may have to hold yourself.

The whole thing feels a little strange – but is not associated with any pain and is absolutely not unpleasant.

The most important point of the DrSmile consultation appointment is then the 3D scan. On the one hand, this serves to find out whether your individual malocclusion is suitable for treatment with invisible aligners.

However, it also represents the basis of your future treatment plan. This is because the 3D scan can be used to plan the tooth correction step by step and in great detail.

DrSmile 3D scan - consultation appointment

The high-tech 3D scanner produces thousands of images of your teeth within a few minutes. These are then assembled into a 3D model.

The 3D scan is created with a small handheld device. This is run along the rows of teeth. And keep doing so until all teeth have been scanned from all sides.

You can even experience the fascinating technology live on the monitor placed in front of you. The whole process takes only a few minutes.

Based on the 3D scan, the movement of your teeth is planned on the computer. Your individual aligners are then produced with the help of a 3D printer.

You can find more information about the 3D scan in this article.

DrSmile appointment: The conversation with the dentist is coming up

After that, you may have to wait a few minutes before the conversation with the dentist or orthodontist can begin.

This is because the doctor must first take a look at your scan and the data you have provided in order to be able to give you further information and an assessment of possible treatment.

You may find out directly at the DrSmile consultation appointment whether your individual case is suitable for tooth correction with aligners.

I myself was lucky and the dentist directly confirmed that my misaligned teeth can be corrected without any problems with the invisible dental trays.

After the 3D scan, the dentist or orthodontist checks the jaw, teeth and gums. This is because correction with aligners is absolutely safe only for healthy dentition.

If tartar has formed in your mouth, the expert will recommend that you have your teeth professionally cleaned before treatment begins.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to clarify any remaining questions about the treatment, possible IPR, care of the dental trays and retention.

What happens after the Dr Smile consultation?

If the treatment of your individual malocclusion with aligners is possible, nothing stands in the way of correcting your teeth.

Following the DrSmile consultation, a treatment plan will be created based on the 3D scan and sent to you by email. Here you will also find out the specific price of your treatment.

In the mail you will also find the link to a simulation of your treatment process. Here you can see even before the start of treatment how your teeth will change in the course of the correction and how they will ultimately look.

Up to this point, everything is free of charge and without obligation. Only when you confirm the treatment plan and want to start with the tooth correction, you make a binding commitment to purchase and costs will be incurred.

After confirmation, the aligners are produced individually for you in the laboratory. Afterwards, they will be conveniently sent to your home.

During treatment, you will need to take regular pictures of your teeth and upload them to the app so that DrSmile experts can monitor the treatment progress.

Frequently asked questions about the DrSmile consultation appointment

Finally, here are some frequently asked questions about the Dr Smile consultation.

You can find more articles and information about DrSmile here.

How long does the first appointment with DrSmile take?

The first appointment at DrSmile usually takes no more than half an hour.

Can I cancel DrSmile?

The DrSmile initial appointment and 3D scan are completely free of charge and without obligation. Costs are incurred only when you decide on the treatment and confirm the treatment plan. Since the aligners are individually manufactured for you, you can no longer withdraw from the contract after this period.

What is an IPR appointment?

An IPR appointment is an “approximal enamel reduction” in which approximately 0.2mm of enamel is polished. In this way, more space is created, which allows the teeth to shift. IPR does not hurt the teeth because the enamel on all teeth is 1.5 to 3mm thick.

For whom is DrSmile not suitable?

DrSmile treatment is only available for adults 18 years and older whose teeth and jaws are no longer growing. Aligners also usually reach their limits in cases of extreme tooth and jaw misalignment.
