PlusDental costs: How much do the invisible dental trays cost?

First things first: Just like DrSmile, PlusDental was acquired by the Straumann Group in 2022.

The company merged the two former startups and now sells the aligners exclusively under the brand name DrSmile.

The PlusDental website can also no longer be accessed in the meantime. You will land directly at DrSmile, where all important questions will be answered.

Appointment booking is also done directly through DrSmile’s booking system.

PlusDental prices are now identical to those of DrSmile

Due to the merger, PlusDental products are no longer available – the invisible braces are now still sold under the brand name DrSmile.

Accordingly, PlusDental prices are also identical to those of DrSmile.

You can find more information about DrSmile prices in this article. Nevertheless, we would like to list them separately here:

Plus Dental costs (now: DrSmile) at a glance

As a rule, PlusDental costs (now: DrSmile) range between 1790 euros and 3190 euros. Only in very rare cases the price can exceed this range.

However, if this is the case for you, you will be explicitly informed about this before the start of the treatment. You can then decide whether you still want to start the dental correction or whether you would rather do without it.

The treatment can be paid either once or in installments. PlusDental prices (now: DrSmile) for light cases are 1790 euros, for medium cases 2890 euros and for complex cases 3990 euros.

The amount of the installments depends on your desired payment model. PlusDental costs (now: DrSmile) here start at 33 euros for mild, 53 euros for moderate and 74 euros for complex malocclusions.

Here you can see an overview of the three price levels:

How are PlusDental prices determined?

Just like PlusDental costs in the past, prices are still communicated transparently under the DrSmile brand name.

So you don’t have to be afraid of hidden costs at any time of your dental correction. Basically, the treatment always starts with a free consultation appointment, which you can book here.

The first appointment is always non-binding. Here you will receive your treatment plan and a cost estimate.

Only when you decide to have your teeth straightened and sign the treatment plan do you make a binding commitment to pay.

To determine the price of treatment, your misaligned teeth will be classified as mild, moderate or severe.

The classification is based on the total number of aligners required for the treatment and must be fabricated individually accordingly.

A higher rating may also be possible if the tooth correction is particularly complicated or IPR is necessary.

The latter is an interproximal enamel reduction (also called approximal enamel reduction), which creates space for the teeth to move and may be required one or more times during treatment.

After treatment: How much do PlusDental retainers (or DrSmile retainers) cost?

After the treatment you should be one hundred percent satisfied with the result. Otherwise, you can opt for a free refinement.

However, this is only free if you have followed all the guidelines during the treatment.

These include, for example, wearing the splints on a scheduled basis and uploading photos to the app on a regular basis.

The next step is the retention phase. Here you can consider whether you would prefer to wear a fixed retainer or removable retainer splints, which are similar to aligners.

The Plus Dental cost for retainer splints (now: DrSmile) is 99 euros per jaw. The splints can be easily reordered in the DrSmile Shop.

The fixed retainer is inserted by the dentist or orthodontist. A permanent retainer in the upper or lower jaw costs 29 euros per month or 350 euros one time.

The permanent retainer for both pines is available for 41 euros per month or a one-time fee of 490 euros.

You can find more information about DrSmile retainers here.

Does the health insurance cover the Plus Dental costs (now: DrSmile)?

Plus Dental costs (now: DrSmile) are unfortunately not covered by either public or private health insurance.

As a rule, the statutory health insurance companies do not pay for orthodontic treatment for persons over 18 years of age.

They only make an exception if the malocclusion of the teeth or jaw reaches a certain degree of severity or if insured persons have had an accident.

Private health insurance, on the other hand, usually covers the costs if there is a medical indication. In other words, whenever severe tooth or jaw misalignments lead to pain or health problems.

However, PlusDental (now: DrSmile) treatment is an aesthetic treatment that corrects only mild to moderate tooth misalignments.

You can find more information about DrSmile and health insurance here.
