Update No. 1 on my teeth correction with DrSmile

My teeth correction with DrSmile has now been running for 3 weeks. Here you will find a first update around the topics of pain, everyday life, cleaning, app and much more.

Hello dear ones. I’m Franzi, online editor and co-founder of About That Smile.

If you’ve seen a few of my videos, you probably know that I’m in the middle of straightening my teeth with DrSmile aligners.

For my treatment I need a total of 10 pairs of aligners and in the meantime I have reached the second pair.

So today I wanted to give you a little update on the course of treatment.

The first insertion actually worked out very well right away. However, my gums and lips were relatively sensitive to the splints in my mouth for the first few days.

I only had slight pressure pains. What was more unpleasant for me was the “foreign body” feeling in my mouth and the fact that I was constantly pushing around the aligners with my tongue. This often left me with an extremely dry mouth.

The first few days I also had a bit of trouble speaking and mumbled quite a bit.

Fortunately, I was on vacation and I would also recommend you to start with the aligner treatment on a weekend, for example.

How does it work with carrying?

Wearing it on a regular basis is really working out very well now. On vacation, however, I did not always get to 22 hours, because of course we always had a very extensive breakfast and took our time at dinner.

That’s why I wore my first aligners two days longer than planned, to make absolutely sure my teeth were ready for the next pair.

I was also advised to do this by a DrSmile expert. Ideally, of course, you should get to the specified wearing time.

But if things don’t work out, you can also extend out the back. By the way, the regular wearing time for a pair of aligners is two weeks.

How is the cleaning of the aligners going?

Cleaning the aligners is fairly straightforward. I rinse them with warm water before each insertion and usually go over them with a soft toothbrush.

A mild soap can be used without any problems – but aligners should not be cleaned with toothpaste.

Once a day, I also clean them extra thoroughly with a special cleaning product for dental trays – usually when I take them out for dinner.

I always try to brush my teeth before insertion. When I’m out and about, I at least rinse my mouth with mouthwash.

I’m actually pleasantly surprised at how well it works with the aligners on the road and how quickly you develop a routine – my aligner can and a small bottle of mouthwash are now always with me, for example.

When should I not wear the aligners?

It is essential to remove the aligners before every meal. Important for smokers: They should not be in the mouth even for the cigarette in between, because they can be discolored by the nicotine – in addition, deposits are formed.

Ideally, the dental trays should also not be in place when consuming staining (e.g. red wine, cola, coffee or tea), sugary or acidic beverages.

However, I must admit that I have already made exceptions here and simply cleaned my teeth and splints thoroughly after consumption.

Hot drinks are also not ideal for aligners because the heat can deform them.

How well does the DrSmile app work?

Before the treatment, I had to install the DrSmile app on my phone. Here I get a push notification when it’s time for a new rail.

Plus, I always stay up to date and know exactly how long I’ve been wearing my current pair of splints and how many days are ahead of me.

I also have to take pictures of my teeth once a week and upload them for inspection.

In this way, DrSmile dentists control my treatment progress and can intervene if necessary if something does not develop according to plan.

My first conclusion on the course of treatment

My conclusion so far with the aligners from DrSmile is very positive and I even notice how my crooked front tooth turns slightly.

In the meantime, the “foreign body” feeling in my mouth has disappeared and I no longer have any problems with my gums and lips.

After inserting the second pair of aligners, I had very slight pressure pain, but it went away after two days.

I’ll definitely keep you posted and post the next update on my treatment soon.
