Update No. 3 on my teeth correction with DrSmile

If you’ve seen a few of my videos, you probably know that I’m in the middle of straightening my teeth with DrSmile aligners.

I need a total of 10 pairs of aligners for my treatment and I’m now on the sixth pair – the next change is due in a few days.

Today I would like to give you a third small update on the course of my treatment.

The aligners have now become an integral part of my everyday life and no longer restrict me.

I generally got used to inserting and removing them very quickly. In the meantime, it is no longer a problem at all.

I have perfected my technique and know exactly how to remove and reinsert the aligners within seconds.

This works both at home and on the go (e.g. in the restaurant on the toilet) without any problems.

My tip: If the aligners are very tight after changing them, it is easier to grip them on the inside of the teeth, loosen them and carefully lever them out.

My aligner box and a small mouthwash have practically grown on me by now – I have these two little helpers with me almost always and everywhere.

It helped me a lot to buy two more tins and some mouthwashes.

I then distributed the three sets as follows: Number one always stays in my work bag, number two in my private handbag and number three is ready to hand in our checkroom.

However, it still happens to me from time to time that I forget my equipment and spontaneously want to eat something on the go.

In this case, I simply wrap the aligners in clean cloths, rinse my mouth thoroughly after eating and then put them back in.

When I get home, I take them out again, clean them thoroughly and brush my teeth.

What initially bothered me about the aligners

I never had any serious problems wearing the aligners from DrSmile.

However, there were one or two things that bothered me a bit in the beginning. I would like to give you an update on this today.

When I took the aligners out during the day to eat and then put them back in, my mouth always felt very dry for the first few hours.

I also had slight problems with speaking immediately after reinsertion and always mumbled or lisped a little.

That has now settled down. Over time, you actually learn to control your tongue and palate in such a way that the speech disorders gradually disappear.

Fisherman’s Friend is also my new friend. I always have a packet to hand in case my mouth does get dry.

Is wearing the aligners still painless?

I still have no pain – I am really relieved about that.

Whenever I put in a new pair of aligners, I have a stronger feeling of pressure for the first two days.

Nevertheless, I can remove and reinsert the rails without any problems. This is because they then sit a little tighter, but with a little skill this can be managed without any problems.

Fun fact: The increased feeling of pressure after changing aligners varies from aligner pair to aligner pair.

In some cases I noticed a huge difference for several days and my teeth were very sensitive.

With other aligner pairs, however, the increased feeling of pressure more or less disappeared the very next day.

Have there been any other successes with aligner treatment?

Now that I am more than halfway through the treatment, I am of course continuing to see success.

I recently compared my first splint with the current one (the sixth) and you can definitely see that the tooth has already rotated enormously.

Especially in the morning, when the aligners have been in my mouth for many hours at a time, I can visually see a clear difference.

By the way, it’s not just my crooked upper front tooth that’s turning. Even the not-so-perfect lower front teeth look very even.

What you should definitely know before your treatment with aligners

During the treatment, the teeth do not sit as firmly in the jaw as you were used to before.

This sometimes feels quite strange, but is no reason to panic. Because clearly, in order to rotate, the teeth must first loosen a bit.

However, you should definitely contact the support when you can easily move the teeth with your finger.

My third conclusion on the course of treatment

After struggling for a long time with whether the treatment was really right for me, I am still positively surprised by the aligner therapy with DrSmile.

The tooth correction is painless and much less complicated than I had imagined beforehand.

In addition, the treatment proceeds exactly according to plan. When I look at my 3D simulation, I can clearly see that my teeth are moving exactly as they should.
